"Worship is performed in Heaven. Though they who perform it are on earth, yet they do it, by faith in Heaven." John Owen
Hubert Clement opened the conference, by first establishing the authority of the gospel, and then calling upon men to cease from their hostility to God and believe in Jesus Christ. Maurice Roberts blessed us with a profound and heart warming view of Jesus Christ. 'Christ is All' was the theme, and we all agreed that He is indeed all! Vernon Higham expanded on the thought of the presence of God, bringing examples from Scripture and church history, before taking us into the sublime presence of God in Heaven. Dafydd Morris spoke on Zaccheus in our inaugural Welsh meeting. It was good to hear the gospel in the Welsh language! We thank all the men for leading us to the Lord in worship. FULL CONFERENCE REPORT
“We rejoice because of what will be done by the preaching of Christ here. We know the place will be the birthplace of precious souls through successive generations. We know that the place will be like a great human heart, throbbing and pulsating with benevolence obtained directly from the cross of Christ ... It will be none other than the house of God and the very gate of heaven.”
Dr William Brock speaking at the opening of Spurgeon’s new building at the Metropolitan Tabernacle, London in 1861.
